Episode #08 with Billi Bierling
In this episode our guest is the humble, in many ways unconventional and well respected high-altitude mountaineer Billi Bierling. Originally from Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Billi lives half of her life in Kathmandu, Nepal, where she maintains the Himalayan Database as a journalist and accompanies expeditions either to basecamps or sometimes even to the summit. The other half of her life she works as a humanitarian worker for the Swiss Development Agency in various locations, most recently in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Her first accomplishment in her fascinating career was a certificate as shop assistant. Billi’s latest achievement was the summiting of the 8201 meter high Cho Oyu peak without using an oxygen mask.
